Prevalence in the community
People that are involved In the Australian Defence Force, which includes the army & army reserve, the navy and the air force, have a much higher chance of developing any type of anxiety disorder. Here is a picture which shows the percentage of people who have an anxiety disorder between the ADF (Australian Defence Force) and the ABS (General Public).
In this picture of the graph it shows that compared to the ABS, people who are in or have been in the ADF experience overall higher rates of any anxiety disorder. The biggest difference between the ABS and ADF is the specific disorder where the ADF experiences a 6% higher rate of cases. Something that did surprise me after looking at these statistics was that the ABS had more diagnosed cases of the generalised anxiety disorder and the panic disorder rather than the ADF. I also think that people in the ADF have a much harder time adapting to life because of all the anxiety disorders that they could face during their life. The ADF also do not have as much specialised help and support programs as other minority groups do, which I think is quite unfair as they need more help with anxiety disorders than the ABS do. |
I think that if I was to create my own program and service that was able to help them out in the defence force especially those suffering with some sort of anxiety and or any other mental issue, I would make sure that there would be someone for them to talk to all the time and be there for them every step of the way. I also believe that if I ever made a support organisation group I would have to cater towards a whole range of different problem to help with. It would be good because it wouldn't just have advice on /about mental health problem and mental illness, it would also have advice of self-harm, pregnancy, relationship growing up and many more that can help you through sticky situations in your life. The policy defines an employee assistance program (EAP) as a “work-based, early intervention strategy which provides appropriate, timely, professional and confidential counselling and referral services for staff (and their families) in order to assist them to identify and resolve professional, personal, health or work-related issue. They would Enlisted have someone to talk to if they felt like they needed the support and make sure they give out the right advice and help these people as much as they possibly can. Overall I think that the ADF have it tougher than the ABS does in anxiety disorders and that if I made my own support organisation I would cater for all minorities. In the graph to the left of this page I old think that if there were the right people for others to talk to that there is a strong possibility that they can recover from there anxiety a little bit obviously it wouldn't just happen over night but they would eventually get better over time.
